The New Year feels…well…new. And preparing for change can be wonderful and thrilling. However it’s important to take time to be thankful for the past year as well as looking ahead! When you’re reviewing your year as an artist, think about what inspired you most this year? What or who encouraged or challenged your work? Who are some of your favourite artists? Favourite songs/albums or shows or pieces that you’ve seen and experienced this year? Looking back, these are important things to think about because one way or another they fueled your thinking. In the midst of trying to fulfil your recent New Year Resolutions, take time to review your own achievements, failures and progress from the last year. What are some of the things you’re proud of regarding your own work the past year? What happened that you are grateful for? What didn’t happen that now, looking back, you are so grateful for? And when thinking ahead as we inevitably do, here’s some wise words from Michelango: The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.’
